Open Air Adventure

Roadwire Automotive Innovation’s Jeep Wrangler With A Convertible Top

By Ellen Mckoy

Nothing appeals to the outdoor adventure spirit quite like a Jeep®. And there’s nothing like  the exhilaration of wind-in-your-hair driving, on or off-road. And now, thanks to Roadwire automotive Innovation, Jeep owners can transform their vehicle into an open-air ride with  myTop®, the first-ever power-operated convertible top for the JK. Simply push a button, and
myTop opens or closes in just six seconds.

The revolutionary design drew on the resources of four affiliate companies, Roadwire, Signature Sunroofs, Distinctive Industries, and Classic Soft Trim. Crafted in the U.S., myTop
features a light-weight aircraft-grade aluminum frame; motors constructed to the same  specs as F-14 fighter jet canopies, a Haartz Stayfast® fabric top, and windows twice the thickness required by DOT.

To finish off the soft-top interior, there are molded rear side panels covered in a carpet-like material and, in another innovative move, an actual headliner. Roadwire is best known as a manufacturer of custom interiors, mostly leather. But for this project, the company opted for a lifestyle-friendly red vinyl interior, with perforated inserts, white contrast stitching and embroidery. A sophisticated climate-control system is hidden beneath the perforated vinyl, which allows the system to breathe.

To add pizzazz to the all-white exterior, Graphic Mart designed a vinyl graphic scheme artfully integrating the myTop logo with the many product sponsor logos. But this Jeep is
more than just a pretty face. It’s been modified with some of the latest products to enhance both appearance and performance. Heavy-duty bumpers from Poison Spyder Customs,  including a RockBrawler rear bumper, give the Jeep a brawny stance. The J/K Brawler Lite with brawler bar front bumper is equipped with J/K a-pile 50-inch light mounts, a winch fairlead mount, and an aluminum hawse winch fairlead. The integrated winch mount accommodates Warn Industries’ new remote controlled Ultimate Performance 9.5cti winch.

Rampage Products’ Black Diamond grille insert accentuates the seven-slot grille, while the company’s powder-coated hood locks provide added security. For improved visibility, Delta  Tech’s Sky Bar features four high-powered HID driving lights and five LED cab lights. Delta’s new waterproof Quad Bar headlights eliminate the chance of water seepage. And Volant’s Cool Air Intake system with a snorkel helps maximize engine performance and efficiency, and takes the worry out of water crossings and muddy terrain.

To enhance the Jeep’s off-road capabilities and handling, added ride height was achieved with Superlift’s suspension system and Bilstein shocks, allowing for General Tire’s extreme-traction, all-terrain 17LT105QLR-C Grabber tires mounted on KO by Rev Wheel 845 Guillotine rims. A Gibson Performance Exhaust cat-back system delivers improved  hill-climbing power and torque. And with the addition of N-Fab’s Wheel-to-Wheel Nerf Steps entry into the Jeep is a snap.

Whether for off-roading or driving around town, this project vehicle honors the Jeep legacy while delivering enhanced versatility, performance and style alluring to weekend warriors and upmarket SUV owners alike.
