A look at the all new 2014 Jeep CherokeeBy TTM Staff
Jeep introduced it's 2014 Cherokee which has been completely redesigned with new technology features, and fuel economy improvements of up to 31 mpg. The SUV maintains it's off-road capabilities that includes three new four-wheel drive systems that features a one 2-speed power transfer unit, and one 2-speed PTU with a locking differential. All 4x4 systems feature the Selec-Terrain traction control system, which allows the driver to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance and five customized settings are offered: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock.
Equipped with a new nine-speed automatic transmission and a new 16-valve, 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2, I-4 engine, which comes standard in the all-new 2014 models, the Cherokee can average up to 31 mpg. The Tigershark engine offers a 500 mile driving range on a tank of gasoline and produces 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. The other engine option is the 3.2 liter V-6 which produces 271 horsepower, 239 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers best-in-class V-6 towing of 4,500 pounds. Helping reach higher fuel economy goals is partly due to the new rear axle disconnect, a feature that reduces energy loss when the four-wheel drive is not engaged.
The exterior design is quite different, but has a hint of the Cherokee's original features. It's more aerodynamic and features advanced LED lighting and will be available with a CommandView panoramic sunroof and Sky Slider roof. Jeep signature red front tow hooks, skid plates, and an aggressive front and rear fascia add to the rugged exterior appearance and deliver exemplary approach and departure angles for class-leading 4x4 capability,
Jeep also added a new front independent suspension with MacPherson struts and a new rear independent multi-link suspension. The front suspension provides 6.7 inches of travel while the rear suspension provides up to 7.8 inches of travel for better articulation.
The interior is plush with soft-touch materials and a seven-inch reconfigurable LED instrument cluster. Jeep's Uconnect 8.4 inch color touchscreen media center will also be available as will the Uconnect Access Via Mobile. The front seats are ergonomically designed to support the contour of the body, and are trimmed with premium cloth or quality Nappa leather. Passengers will like the second row 60/40 folding seat that has more comfort and flexibility for room and storage.
The Trailhawk model offers the most agressive appearance and off-road capabilities. The Trailhawk includes a one-inch factory lift, Jeep Active Drive Lock with locking rear differential, skid plates and signature red tow hooks. It also has an approach angle of 29.8 degrees, a departure angle of 32.1 degrees and breakover angle of 23.3 degrees. Running ground clearance is 8.7 inches.
The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee is available in four different models in the United States and will arrive in volume in dealer showrooms in the third quarter 2013. Customers can choose from the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport, Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Limited and the rugged, Trail Rated Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.
