Cashing-In On The Exploding Jeep Accessory Market

By Dan Sanchez

If you haven’t already heard, Jeeps are one of the most accessorized vehicles on the market today. For truck accessory retailers, this can open up a new market segment that’s within easy reach. When truck accessory manufacturers saw this market open up, they quickly began developing and adding Jeep products to their line. "No doubt the Jeep market has been booming.” says Dan Kruzic of Dee-Zee. “Jeep has always had a very dedicated group of enthusiasts, but the addition of the four- door Wrangler has opened up a totally new market, making it more attractive as the family vehicle. Dee Zee has seen very good demand for steps and additional storage options."

Other manufacturers found that the Jeep market opened up new possibilities for their products. Take spray-on truck bed liners for example. An application on high-impact areas on Jeeps allows for more uses, as well as new customers that can take advantage of this technology. “Scorpion offers a coating that is perfect for high abuse areas of the Jeep Wrangler bodies, says Beau Battin of Scorpion Protective Coatings.  “It will also add additional protection to high corrosion areas and with an additional additive called HNR, the coating can provide heat and noise reduction. It’s perfect for those wishing to coat the interior belly of their Jeep.”

With the support and even some incentives from the same manufacturers you carry in your store, accessing the Jeep market isn’t so much of a stretch. Start by contacting your manufacturer’s reps and warehouse distributors. See what types of Jeep products are readily available and if they can offer some discounts with your normal order.

But don’t start by trying to turn your store into a Jeep 4x4 outfitter. Stay within the types of accessories you already carry, such as hitches, LED lighting, seat covers, floor mats, side steps, cargo boxes and more. Once you begin advertising and letting your customers know you carry Jeep accessories, you can allow your product line to grow with your business. We put together some examples of popular Jeep products that would be an easy fit.

Scorpion Protective Coatings is known for its industry leading truck bed liners. But, the uses for this three part polyurethane coating system are endless, as evident by this 2008 Jeep Wrangler built by Austin Weiss of Stuart, Florida. The Jeep was taken apart and coated with Scorpion’s urethane coating because of its extremely durable physical properties and ease in application. www.scorpioncoatings.com.
