Installing an AMP Research Jeep Wrangler BedStep

How to install AMP's BedStepĀ® Trail Series step for Jeep Wrangler JKs

By TTM Staff

Much like the AMP Research  BedStep® for pickup trucks, the company's new Trail Series™ bumper step for Jeep JK Wranglers also provides a much needed step-up assist. It was designed for Jeep owners to easily access roof-mounted cargo racks, as well as provide a sturdy platform to stand on when putting up or taking down the Jeep soft top.

Compatible with OEM and most aftermarket bumpers, the BedStep® features a high-traction composite step-pad that’s big enough for two large boots. The Jeep owner can simply kick it down when needed, and kick it back up to stow away without any loss of ground clearance or departure angle clearance.

Installation is very easy, as the BedStep® has a single mounting bracket that utilizes the Jeep’s existing bolt holes on the frame and rear cross member to secure it under the driver’s side rear bumper. We looked on as AMP Research installed one on their project Jeep Wrangler.

To install AMP’s BedStep™ Trail Series™ bumper step, the mounting bracket must be attached to the linkage assembly with the supplied hardware.

Under the rear driver’s side of the Jeep, the instructions indicate which factory bolts to remove.

A threaded plate is inserted into a slot in the Jeep’s frame to secure the supplied M8 bolt that is also used to anchor the mounting bracket.

Then the assembly is lifted into position and secured by reinstalling the factory bolts.

The finished installation provides a sturdy platform that easily flips down or up out of the way with no loss of ground clearance. A spring loaded cam mechanism keeps it rattle-free and safely stowed away.

The BedStep® is wide enough for two large boots and provides a sturdy platform for reaching cargo on roof mounted racks.

D.C. Graves Co. This website http://dcgraves.com/platform-truck.html deals with platform trucks. Does anyone know if they are the best resource for platform trucks? I was looking for a site that has had a lot of real user activity or stats to back up what they do. By mike-mm on 2014 03 16
