Built For The Great Outdoors

Roadwire's Trout Unlimited Toyota Tundra Is The Reel Deal

By Ellen McKoy

For fly-fishing enthusiasts, nothing beats a weekend getaway at a crystal-clear lake or stream swarming with game fish.  But as seasoned anglers know, an open-air adventure calls for a fully outfitted truck. Which is what Dave Edmondson had in mind when he built a project vehicle for the 2015 SEMA Show. Edmondson is senior VP of Roadwire Inc. and its subsidiaries, Roadwire Leather, Distinctive Industries, Classic Soft Trim and Signature Automotive Products. A restyling pro and avid trout fisherman, he’s a member of Trout Unlimited, the conservation-minded organization that advocates protecting, restoring and sustaining cold water fisheries.

So it made sense to design a lifestyle theme in keeping with TU’s mission. To execute the build, he teamed with CST to transform a 2014 Toyota Tundra into a Trout Unlimited Cold Water Awareness vehicle.

The truck is outfitted with $80,000- worth of accessories, most provided by SEMA-member companies. The challenge was to create a graphic scheme that captures the theme while recognizing supporting players. Enter Vinyl Wraps by Daley Visual, which produced and installed the wrap, blending sponsor and TU logos over a subtle background that creates the illusion of flowing water.

Though equipped with a TRD factory supercharger that pumps out ample horsepower, added boost comes from Volant’s cold-air intake, Gibson’s cat-back exhaust, and RK Sport’s carbon fiber Ram-air hood. General Tires’ Grabber rubber are fitted to Black Rhino Imperial wheels. Improved handling and higher ground clearance are achieved with Camburg’s front A-arm and coil-over suspension, Atlas rear springs, and FOX rear suspension components.

Other add-ons run the gamut: T-Rex Torch Series grille, ICI skid plate, Magnum front and rear bumpers and RT steps, ARB USA roof rack, AirDesign USA fender flares, Signature’s power moonroof, Superwinch winch and Monster’s tow hooks. Rostra’s daytime running lights, Anzo USA’s LED light bar and driving lights, and CALI Retrofits’ custom halo headlights help illuminate back-country roads.

SnugTop’s Aero Sport cap is paired with DECKED’s storage system, which sits on BedRug’s carpet bedliner. Roof-mounted sleeping quarters was provided by Cascadia Vehicle Tents.

To dress the interior, Roadwire designed radiant red-leather upholstery fitted with Rosen’s headrest-mounted DVDs. Distinctive’s climate-controlled seating system enhances driver and passenger comfort. The Toray ultra-suede headliner with AVG headliner lights add a classy touch.

To enjoy tunes on long road trips, there’s a Kicker sound system, VOXX Media Bridge and Bonjovi factory radio enhancement. Safety features include AVG’s Homelink®, Roadwire’s SmartView OEM-integrated blind-spot monitoring system, a GCH factory radio navigation upgrade, and Code Alarm remote start and security system.

Whether heading to a secluded mountain lake or scenic stream, Roadwire’s Trout Unlimited Cold Water Awareness Tundra is truly built for the great outdoors. All an angler needs to do is to set the hook, cast a fly line, and reel in the catch of a lifetime.

Roadwire’s Trout Unlimited Tundra is packed with performance and styling upgrade, everything an angler needs for an off-road adventure.

DECKED’s storage system is ideal for stowing gear sponsored by Fishpond, Sawyer™, Winston Rods and Rocky Mountain Nets.

Edgy bumper, grille and knobby tires add a muscular look. Daytime running lights, LED light bars and custom halo headlights provide superior illumination.
